Why convert BMP to WebP?
BMP stores every pixel without any compression โ that makes it useful for raw editing pipelines and Windows screen captures but completely unsuitable for the web. A 5 MB BMP often becomes 50โ300 KB as WebP at the same visual quality.
WebP is supported by every modern browser, so once converted your image is ready to embed directly.
Lossy vs lossless
For BMP screenshots and synthetic content you may prefer WebP's lossless mode (pixel-perfect, still much smaller than BMP). For photographic BMPs the default lossy preset (quality 80) gives the best size/quality ratio.
How the converter works
- Drop or select one or more BMP files (up to 20 MB each).
- We decode them with libvips and re-encode as WebP at quality 80.
- Download the WebP directly, or a ZIP for multiple files.
