Converti BMP in WebP

Drop a BMP and get a WebP back. BMP files are uncompressed and enormous; WebP gives the same visual content at a tiny fraction of the size.

Why convert BMP to WebP?

BMP stores every pixel without any compression — that makes it useful for raw editing pipelines and Windows screen captures but completely unsuitable for the web. A 5 MB BMP often becomes 50–300 KB as WebP at the same visual quality.

WebP is supported by every modern browser, so once converted your image is ready to embed directly.

Lossy vs lossless

For BMP screenshots and synthetic content you may prefer WebP's lossless mode (pixel-perfect, still much smaller than BMP). For photographic BMPs the default lossy preset (quality 80) gives the best size/quality ratio.

How the converter works

  1. Drop or select one or more BMP files (up to 20 MB each).
  2. We decode them with libvips and re-encode as WebP at quality 80.
  3. Download the WebP directly, or a ZIP for multiple files.

Domande frequenti

For typical images, the WebP is 90–99% smaller than the BMP, because BMP stores pixels uncompressed while WebP applies efficient lossy or lossless compression.

At the default quality 80 the visual result is virtually identical. For pixel-perfect output, register and pick the lossless preset.
